Maria was born in October of 2009 so she is getting up there in age for a goat. She is a beautiful Nubian with great coloring and disposition. She came to Lucky Glider Rescue & Sanctuary along with two eight-month-old offspring (Rufus and Mandy) in October of 2011.
Maria and her brood were brought to us while the facility was in the Texoma area. According to the donor records, Maria and her kids were knocking down fences and raiding a neighbor’s garden. The neighbor was shooting guns over their heads to scare them off but this was becoming a frequent occurrence so something had to give.
The biggest problem was insufficient fencing. At the ranch, we use small panel “sheep and goat no-climb” fencing which does a good job of keeping these critters where they are supposed to be.
Although we are sure her little boys and girls love her (Rufus, Mandy, Marge, and Mitchell), they do have a tendency to be rough with her. We try to hand feed her a little extra because she gets pushed out of the way by the younger animals.
