Jules and Hershel – both geldings – were playing in the corral by the new barn a few days ago and I was lucky enough to catch them on a short video. Donkeys are known for their playtime antics which includes nudging each other, sneak attacks, and grabbing the scruffs of each other’s necks. Here the boys are playing a little rough, but for them it’s all in good fun.
In addition to this behavior, sometimes they will jostle over a feed bucket or other item and they’ll play “tug of war.” They always seem to have a way of occupying themselves when they are not eating.
